New Features of Grain Trailers You Need to Know

Addison Morris

Some farmers prefer to buy used grain trailers instead of new ones when they have a need for another grain trailer on the farm. Such farmers may not know that they will miss the benefits offered by the new features added to the grain trailers that are currently available on the market for new trailers. This article discusses some of those new features that would be helpful to a farmer.

Electric Tarps

Many farmers often have to load or offload grain during unfavourable weather, such as when strong winds are blowing. Such farmers struggle to remove the tarps on their grain trailers since the wind keeps making the tarps flap erratically. New grain trailers have electric tarps that are easy to remove simply by flicking a switch on your dashboard.

ABS Systems

New trailers also have anti-lock brake systems. Such a braking system can save your grain trailer from jackknifing as you drive over a slippery surface. You will also eliminate the need to replace grain trailer tyres that develop flat spots when the axles lock during hard-braking events, such as when an animal suddenly runs into the path of the grain trailer.

Better Doors

The doors on older grain trailers are backbreaking. This is because the farmer has to use a lot of energy to open the basic sliding doors. Newer grain trailers have roller doors that can be operated electrically. Such doors are a big relief to older farmers who may not have the strength to force the manually operated doors to open.

Lightweight Construction

Many grain trailer manufacturers now use plenty of aluminium when designing the body of the trailer. Such a material reduces the overall weight of the trailer. Consequently, the grain trailer will be able to carry more grain without exceeding its load limits. This means that you can make fewer trips when transporting grain from the field to the stores.

Better Suspension System

Older grain trailers are equipped with leaf springs in their suspension systems. Those springs aren't very effective at reducing the effect of bumps on the occupants of the grain trailer. Newer models have air suspension systems that enable the farmer to have a smoother ride. The grain trailer can also last longer because its components will be subjected to less intense vibrations as the trailer moves over an uneven surface.

As you can see, it may not always be wise to purchase a used grain trailer. Such a trailer will not have the features above that can increase its performance and longevity. Buy a new grain trailer and its superior performance and durability will more than justify the added cost that you will have incurred.

About Me
Improving Your Automobile

Yo! I would like to offer you a warm welcome to my blog. My name is Lauren and I would like to dedicate this blog to useful information about improving your automobile. When I was growing up, I always dreamed of owning my own car and driving around the city. However, when the day came to purchase my first car, I realised just how expensive a new auto can be! I bought a second-hand car and then set about working on it to improve how it. I taught myself how to change the oil and tune the engine. I also accessorised the car so it looks great. I hope you enjoy my blog.
